DP Ngohnal – The Julbrew Excise Tax Crisis

On this Episode of DP Ngohnal – Diasporium’s Tima Gaye, Saul and Babou Abdoulie reacted to news of Banjul Breweries, established since in the 1970s, The Gambia’s, first and only brewer of both Alcohol (Beer) and Soft Drinks locally known as Julbrew, threatening a shut down of operations in The Gambia.

The Company has been at loggerheads with the Gambia government due to a tax hike feud.

Communicating such tax hike was bad precedent, Julbrew announced to the General public the laying off of 18 of its staff and looking forward to 25 more by May 11th if The Gambia Government insists on still having no interest rolling back a ridiculous business crippling tax hikes of 10% to now 75%.

At that exorbitant rate, Julbrew had no choice but to furlough employees to make up for the burden.
